Grammy morning began with a pale sky. As anybody who is anybody in the industry starts off on their last trail of events before music’s biggest night, The Power Room staff was humbled by a selection to attend the SESAC & Bryan-Michael Cox 10th Annual Pre-Grammy Brunch at Los Angeles’ chic Four Seasons Hotel. The brunch has grown to be recognized as one of the most important networking and celebration events amongst pre-Grammy festivities for urban music, having honored former music executive Chris Hicks, business and music mogul Sean Combs, and seasoned Hip-Hop veteran Ludacris in past years.
The peaking sun barely reflected off the ballroom’s beautiful crystal chandeliers. But as people began to enter – full of energy and decked out in their finest – the room began to sparkle. It was matched by endless rounds of champagne as people and friends greeted, laughed, and exchanged business cards. The catered food was what one would expect from a top-tier hotel in Beverly Hills, made complete with more champagne (mimosas), of course.
Legendary music producers like Chris Henderson and Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis were on hand, alongside some of music’s most decorated executives and artists. Trevor Gale – SESAC Senior Vice President – took stage to welcome all the smiling faces and then proceeded to give a spirited and witty introduction to multiple time Grammy winner and co-host Bryan-Michael Cox. Mr. Cox’s speech was much more of a conversation with his guests, as he offered us a trajectory of his career, the brunch, and the music business over the last decade. All the while, he painted the type of zeal undergirding the talent one needs to have longevity in entertainment. Mr. Cox continues to exercise his mentorship of young songwriters and producers, having brought three young composers on stage with him as he talked about music’s bright future.
All in all, The Power Room couldn’t have been more delighted to cover such an authentic celebration. We would like to officially thank both SESAC and Bryan-Michael Cox for having us and making our first Grammy season one to remember. Check out footage from the event below
