David Renzer, former chairman of Universal Music Publishing Group, has been announced as the new Chairman of Spirit Music Group, according to Billboard. Spirit Music Group is a independent music publisher, which owns an extensive catalogue from artists such as Pete Townshend, Chaka Khan, and The Grateful Dead.
Renzer will work from both the New York and Los Angeles offices, and is expected to double the size of Spirit Music through acquisitions, and increased new talent signings.
“What attracted me to Spirit Music is they are a fantastic company that has quietly built up one of the finest owned catalogs,” says Renzer. “They own classic songs, have a great catalog and a great reputation.”
During Renzer’s tenure at UMPG, he was heavily influential in the signings of Eminem, Mary J.Blige, Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, and others.
