It seems that music industry doyens are chalking up album promotions as something of the non-digital, non-streaming past. Still soaring off the back of an impressive 2013, Pharrell Williams is set to join the likes of good friends Beyonce and Jay Z by releasing a new solo project without all the bells and whistles of traditional marketing campaigns. “You’ll get it in about 10 days,” says the baby-faced veteran while chatting details of the album with BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe backstage at this year’s BRIT Awards.
Pharrell, who is widely known for his tranquility and good spirit, spoke passionately about the album being an open forum for assessing the wonderment of women. He finds that as a society, there is an “imbalance” in our current model for viewing women, and with his first solo album in eight years, he hopes to paint a full portrait of what the opposite sex has meant to both his creative and personal trajectory. G I R L, titled and formatted strategically, is gearing up to be another treat that we’d only expect from Pharrell. The guy has made a living that way.
